Alliance and Leicester was told to clearly display all the conditions of a free flights offer included in a direct mailing campaign.
The Advertising Standards Authority found that a direct mailing by the bank was misleading.
Credit card customers complained about a mailing that read: "Take your credit card with you every time you go shopping and we'll help you get away ... Simply by spending £300 or more on your credit card every month for the next two months, you'll receive a return flight for two to Europe".
Complainants claimed the ad did not make clear that the flights were only available to customers paying for accommodation with promoters and also claimed the cost of accommodation had been increased to cover costs of the flights.
MBNA responded that the details of how the flight vouchers could be used were on the reverse side of the mailing but the ASA ruled that the relevant detail should have been more prominently displayed.
However, the ASA did not uphold the complaint that accommodation costs had been inflated to cover the price of the free flights.
