ASDA has given a bonus to its Christmas Savings Card customers who 'spread the cost' of the holiday season.
Customers who saved £144 by using their card by 17:00 on November 16th were able to take advantage of a 4.2 per cent tax-free bonus, which totalled a £1 million payout nationwide.
This extra value was added to the card's value on the following day and, according to ASDA financial services, rivalled that of many banks and building societies.
As well as using the Christmas season to publicise the campaign, the company produced a report by the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) which found that Britons were planning to spend £300 million less on Christmas this year than last.
"We encourage customers to save throughout the year, and offer an extra incentive near Christmas to help them get the best out of their festive shopping," said the scheme's head, Amanda Farrell.
ASDA used the announcement to encourage consumers to get a card for next year, revealing that they are available from shops now.
