Halifax has stepped up its insurance marketing campaign by offering an annual £50 reward for customers that remain claim-free.
Many will see the move as a response to Nationwide's recent announcement that it would offer a 20 per cent discount to home and contents insurance for 2008 and 2009 if both were purchased together.
According to Sarah Cowx, head of marketing for Halifax Home Insurance, the £50 bonus is a "thank you" to loyal customers.
She said: "Other insurers offer discounts and incentives to tempt customers in, but we are the only insurer to reward customers for their loyalty year after year with a £50 thank you."
Recent research by the Financial Services Consumer Panel found that there had been a 77 per cent drop in the amount of insurance advertising that did not comply with Financial Services Authority regulations.
