As the generation that has grown up using the internet enters the jobs market, more firms, including many financial services companies, will adopt unified communications (UC) systems, one industry expert has predicted.
Tony Corlett, product development director at Azzurri, dubbed the current generation of people aged under 25 "digital citizens" and suggested that as more of the demographic enters the jobs market there will be a switch towards UC solutions.
At the moment, Mr Corlett suggested that only financial services companies and other businesses where the benefits of UC were clear had already adopted such systems.
However, he added: "When it will change wholesale is when the digital citizens
hit the labour market in the next five years.
"That's how they communicate with people - in a real time fashion."
"When these youngsters come into the labour market they are going to want to use similar technology to communicate."
Separately, Mr Corlett added that the adoption of UC systems was "much more about improving business process then achieving cost savings on infrastructure".
