Insurance firm Sheilas' Wheels has used the UK's perfume and aftershave spending habits to market its home contents cover.
According to research from the company, nearly a quarter of all Brits (23 per cent) are buying less fragrances than six months ago, with almost three quarters (72 per cent) planning to reduce spending on perfumes and aftershaves over the next six months.
This is leading to people "hoarding" their existing scents, which in some cases amounts to a large value - 13 per cent of women and eight per cent of men estimate their perfumes to be worth more than £200.
Sheilas' Wheels has warned that these items should be included when working out home insurance.
"Fragrances are expensive, luxury items and their combined value should not be underestimated when it comes to arranging contents insurance," said Jacky Brown from the company.
"They are small items but their price tags certainly aren't - so don't overlook perfumes and cosmetics, when thinking about the value of what's in our wardrobes."
The female-oriented company added home insurance services to its list of products in February of this year.
