Tesco is promoting its home insurance product with a large discount, the company has announced.
The financial services arm of the supermarket giant is offering 50 per cent off both its standard and finest cover for new customers who get a quote before January 7th next year and then purchase the policy.
Tesco believes that the offer will be attractive to homeowners who have been hit by the downturn in house prices and the slowing economy, but still have an expensive few weeks ahead as Christmas draws near.
Jim Bruce, head of the company's home insurance arm, said: "This is a fantastic offer for our customers, especially in the current economic climate.
"This is also a great opportunity for our customers to save money in the run up to Christmas."
In addition, Tesco is using the time of year to provide its existing contents home insurance customers with a 'Christmas present'.
The contents sum insured on every policy is to be increased by ten per cent from the start of December to January 15th 2009 for free.
