Visa Europe's brand advertising will now be visible in the real world as well as the virtual one.
The company has unveiled its own island in online world Second Life, which can be accessed through a virtual teleport.
This means that Visa Europe will join Vodafone, Coca-Cola and Nissan, which all currently have presences in Second life, according to mad.co.uk.
Sandra Alzetta, senior vice president of innovation at Visa, commented: "Visa has approached Second Life in the interactive manner of the world itself.
"What we have created is very much a work in progress which we are hoping to see grow organically through user participation, we are looking for visitors to our island and our member banks to input into our presence in their world."
Ms Alzetta added that the island was chosen because it is close to the mainland, allowing for growth and development.
She continued that Second Life is an ideal vehicle for the company, since it is at the forefront of developing new technologies like Visa Europe.
The news follows reports that a UK law firm has opened offices in the virtual world.
Field Fisher Warehouse became the first major UK law firm to open an office in Second Life boasting a two storey office and corporate art collection, according to the Times.
